Skerries Book Launch December 2017
I am inviting all students who attend my after school creative writing classes to submit a story to be published in a book this Christmas. The book will be entitled Stories For Life, Not Just For Christmas. This is a great opportunity for young writers to see their work in print. Every story that we receive will be published (as long as we receive it before the deadline of 2nd November). The story must be no longer than 1,000 words. Shorter is fine. It can be on any topic and can be written in creative writing class, at home or in school
DATE FOR SUBMISSION
Stories can be sent from now until 2nd November to my colleague, Oona Roycroft, who is editing the book. Please email the stories to office@meganwynne.com with your name, age, the title and the text of your story. You can send the text in the body of the email or as a Word or Pages attachment. The Final submission deadline is Friday 2nd November.
FEEDBACK
If you wish to receive feedback on your story to make it better, please submit your story to Oona by Midnight Thursday 18th October. After this date you will not receive feedback on your story. If Oona receives your story on or before Thursday 18th October, you’ll get suggestions on ways to improve your story no later than Friday 26th October. You will then have the Halloween break to perfect your story and you will need to resend your updated story to Oona by the final deadline Friday 2nd November. Unfortunately, stories that are submitted after the deadline of 2nd November may not be included in the book, as we will be on a tight schedule to get the book to the printers.
PICTURE FOR THE COVER
We would love every child, who is interested, to create picture for the cover of the book. The picture should suit the title Stories For Life, Not Just For Christmas. Please DO NOT write the title on the picture, as then we cannot use it. We will be very grateful for all pictures received and will choose the best one for the book cover. The latest date to give us a picture is Thursday 25th October. Pictures can be handed to me in class.
BOOK LAUNCHES
Stories For Life, Not Just for Christmas, will be launched on
Saturday 15th December at 4p.m. in Malahide Parish Centre
Thursday 20th December at 5.15p.m. in Skerries Mills.
Everyone is welcome to either or both launches –friends, family, grannies and granddads. Complimentary soft drinks and nibbles will be provided. Children, who have submitted stories to the book will be invited to read their stories aloud. (I will pick names out of a hat to choose the readers) After the readings all of the authors will sign books! The whole event will last about an hour. This book always makes a wonderful Christmas present and I hope many of you buy it for family and friends. It will cost €10 and all profits from sales will be donated to Focus Ireland to help the homeless.
