Week long courses for Teens / Children cost €150, or at a special discount of €135 if booked and paid for in full before 16th June 2012.

The camps run for five days and each day we cover a main topic. For example the first day I may do a guided writing exercise to help the students see that, even if they are all writing the same story, each of them has a unique way of doing it. We then move onto creating characters, which we put into a story during the week. Day Two we learn how to show character through action and  dialogue. Day three we focus more on how to write believable dialogue and move on to how to hook a reader from the very start of a story. Day four covers how to plot a classic story, and Day five covers endings and editing a story. My aim for the week is for everyone to have fun writing and to achieve their individuals aims. The novel is discussed as well as the short story. We do individual writing, pair work and group work. There are two breaks each day. One at 11.30am for half an hour and another at 1.15p.m. for forty-five minutes. I take the children/teenagers outside to a lovely green area to eat their snacks and afterwards we play organised games. It is good for them to run around and get fresh air between writing sessions. It is also a brilliant way to break the ice and make new friends.

Week long courses for Adults cost €200, or at a special discount of €180 if booked and paid one month in advance (deadline is 25th May for course in June and 20th July for course in August). The course content is similar to the children’s course, except we go into more depth with each topic. Time is given for writing, discussion and feedback in class. Each week-long course is designed specifically for each individual group. Therefore many students return again and again to my summer courses as there is always something new to learn. There is a very pleasant Cafe in the Mills for chats and getting to know like-minded students during the breaks.
