WAITING
This story was inspired by my wonderful grandmother who spent the last years of her life in a nursing home unable to speak.

VENICE
This story is based on my own secret trip to Venice. I was doing a summer course in Austria, and without telling anyone (my husband included) I hopped on a train
and spent two days wandering around Venice alone - heaven!

LATEST COMPLETED PROJECT
My latest competed novel is: EYES OF A BOY.
Can a single mother, who enjoys late night boozing, live alongside a man who prays at dawn and believes women should be covered up?
Eyes of a Boy is about an Afghan lawyer, and his son, living in Dublin, next door to a single mother and daughter. A firm bond develops between the two children forcing the parents to overcome their prejudices and get to know one another. The story takes place over nine years and begins when the Afghan man’s wife flees Kabul to protect her daughter from the Taliban. Her new life in New York makes up the subplot of the story.
I wrote this novel after spending five years teaching English to asylum seekers and refugees in Dublin. Afghan families generously invited me into their homes and their hearts, and the staff, at the Dublin Islamic Cultural Institute, allowed me to observe children’s religion classes and welcomed me into the mosque. My aim was to explore the barriers that can exist between Muslims and westerners, and both communities were delighted to help me.
CURRENT PROJECT
I am currently working on an untitled children’s adventure novel, for eight to twelve year olds.
